Eric Carle

One of our favourite Authors is Eric Carle, author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and many more exciting children's books. Andy's favourite book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar which we discovered when my mother-in-law gave Andy the 40th anniversary sticker book. We made a lapbook based on the theme of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Andy LOVES it. I will be blogging about our progress through some of Eric Carle's books as we will be taking each one and making a lapbook according to each book's theme. Here is a list of the books we will be covering. We'll most probably do one a month apart from our other weekly lapbooks and we'll buy the books as we go along.

Books we have:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Andy's Gran gave him the sticker book as well as the colour in book. I plan to buy him the original book, including the audiobook cd, this month as I spotted it in our local bookstore and it's a MUST have for our little Caterpillar fan.

Do you want to be my friend?

A gift from Gran and a real treat. This book is gorgeous with Eric Carle's brilliant illustrations and a wonderful anticipation to turning each page wondering who each animal tail belongs to. Andy has obviously, through reading it so much, memorized which tail belongs to who but he never fails to draw a big excited 'surprised' breath each time we turn the pages. This will make a very informative lapbook as we can study each animal and learn interesting facts.

Pancakes, Pancakes

This is a gorgeous book. I bought it last week at our local bookstore and we're really enjoying it. It's going to make a very interesting lapbook as we can go in detail on things such as wheat turning into flour, eggs coming from hens, milk from cows, etc. We'll also make our own butter and of coarse make pancakes as additional activities.

Future Eric Carle titles we'll lapbook about:

Brown bear, Brown bear, What do you see?

1, 2, 3 to the Zoo

The tiny seed

Rooster's off to see the world

The honeybee and the robber

The very busy spider

All in a day
